T.O.L.E.R.A.N.C.E

A word becomes meaningful because of all its letters, each one indispensable and of equal importance in conveying the meaning. In the same way, the different cultures and spiritual beliefs of our societies can live together in brotherhood and complete one another, in the knowledge of reciprocal respect and a little kindness. Mysterious and grave, nine emissaries invite you to meet them, to respect their differences and the beliefs they suggest. Joined together on the same site, they speak to us of encounter and harmony, of peaceful completeness. As humans, we all share, inherent in our nature and rooted in the awareness of our vulnerability, the same quest for stability and peace. Religious tensions seem to worsen day after day. Yet the mosaic of beliefs and cultures makes up the world... Through this sculpture, I wanted to bring to light the likeness of this common quest for immanence, whatever it may be and whatever the "god" to which it is addressed. It is this similarity, this convergence, that should be shown — rather than the differences caused by unproven speculation or groundless fundamentalist claims about the divine, which are inherently ambiguous and therefore questionable. Each letter, through its particular style, evokes a belief found somewhere in the world. But the interpretations are deliberately left open to everyone's imagination...
