| T.O.L.E.R.A.N.C.E in Abu Dhabi |
 |
First permanent public sculpture on the territory.
Some of you know my sculpture T.O.L.E.R.A.N.C.E, which consists of 9 large bronze letters/characters, forming the word “tolerance”, for having seen it at La Monnaie de Paris or in the Luxembourg Gardens, this summer.
The series N° 3/8 of this sculpture, presented by the Gallery Nathalie Gaillard, has been acquired by the Government of Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) and is installed in front of the Palace of the Government.
It is the first permanent public sculpture in the territory.
Many children showing flags of all nationalities unveiled T.O.L.E.R.A.N.C.E to the public on November 19, 2008.
The event, reported by many media, proceeded in the presence of important political and cultural personalities.
I would have liked to share with you all this event of great intensity.

“It is not of importance that One be a Believer or Not:
What is important is to be Tolerant”
DALAÏ LAMA
GUY FERRER opens the doors of his Studio and unveils for you a premier showing of his new monumental hopeful work: T.O.L.E.R.A.N.C.E.
T.O.L.E.R.A.N.C.E consists of nine monumental bronze sculptures, each one representing a letter of the word “tolerance”. An artistic challenge which brings forth the message facing man today.
The artist, alerted by the new clash of religions, source of a spreading chaos, proposes to us his vision of reconciliation and his message of hope.
Sculptor and Painter, Guy FERRER presents here a major work, an ode to tolerance incarnated in nine letters in bronze: Priests, Wise Men, Pilgrims…
Each bronze evokes a different spirituality or cult.
Guy FERRER superimposes them symbolically, giving them the freedom to dialog in a profound way.
The sculpture T.O.L.E.R.A.N.C.E will be unveiled to all and installed on March 21st, 2007 in the new park ‘Victor-Hugo’ in Saint-Ouen, France, which consists of 4 acres of gardens recuperated from urban land, is a remarkable liaison of vegetation connecting the 17th arrondissement of Paris to Saint-Ouen.
T.O.L.E.R.A.N.C.E is an ambitious work which Guy FERRER contemplated in 2004, in reaction to the preoccupying rise in religious “integrationism”, a creation which has taken two years to complete.
The artist envisions the installation of his work in other strategic cities of the world so that, through seven new editions, the message of T.O.L.E.R.A.N.C.E. will be heard and will shine.
As stated by the artist:
“A word becomes intelligent because of each letter, each one indispensable and of equal importance to project the meaning. And so, the different cultures and spiritual beliefs of our society can co-habit fraternally and complement the other, in the knowledge of dynamic reciprocal respect.
“Mysterious and grave, my emissaries invite you to meet them, to respect their difference and the beliefs which they espouse. Together, and meeting on the same site, they speak to us of encounter and harmony, of peaceful completeness and the sharing of meaning”.
“I wanted to create a monumental word, understood in several languages. A word long enough to impose itself physically on the site, a word in which everybody could find their meaning. “
“I chose “tolerance” because this word seemed to have been forgotten in the post-1968 world. Tolerance is a voluntary effort, an effort to be made with ones-self, a general state of welcome to others. It is not about laxity or being permissive”.
“When they are united on the same site, these personages will speak to us of coming-together and harmony, a welcome dialogue on our differences, a peaceful complicity, beyond dictates.”
“The viewer will be invited to discover each letter and to reconsider the key message of the installation. The passer-by, becomes pilgrim, and will give life and meaning to the concept of the Word”.

| ALTER EGO: Itinerantes |
 |
